BP arrived in Vietnam in 1989. BP business in Vietnam includes the exploration and production of oil and gas, the production and distribution of lubricants, and the supply of crude oil to the first local refinery. BP is also investing in the growing Vietnamese power industry.

BP is the Operator of Block 06-1 at Nam Con Son Basin offshore Vietnam with Lan Tay and Lan Do Gas Field. The stakeholders of BP include BP AMOCO 35%, ONGC 45% and PVEP 20%. The PSC was signed on May 18, 1988. Cooperation agreement for NCSP signed on Aug. 08, 1999. The stakeholders including PetroVietnam 51%, BP Amoco 32.67% and ConocoPhillips 16.33%.

Cuu Long Joint Operating Company was established in 1998 to operate the Petroleum Exploration & Production Activities under the Petroleum Contract for Block 15.1 offshore Vietnam signed by the Vietnam Parties (PV, PVEP) and Foreign Parties (ConocoPhillips, KNOC, SK, Geopetrol).  The PC signed on Sep. 16, 1998.

Hoang Long and Hoan Vu JOC’s are joint companies between PVEP (a subsidiary of PetroVietnam), SOCO Vietnam Ltd., PTTEP Hoang Long Co. Ltd. and OPECO Vietnam Ltd., having their business in oil & gas exploration and production in the Cuu Long Basin, offshore Vietnam:

+ Hoan Vu JOC is an Operator of Block 09-2. The PSC was signed on Dec. 16, 2000. The stakeholders of Hoan Vu JOC including: SOCO 25%, PTTEP 25%, PVEP 50%.

+ Hoang Long JOC is an Operator of Block 16-1. The PSC was signed on Nov. 15, 1999, Phase 1 extension Dec. 15, 2002. The stakeholders of Hoang Long JOC including: SOCO 28.5%, PTTEP 28.5%, OPECO 2%, PVEP 41%.

IDEMITSU

 
On October 28, 2004, Idemitsu, as an Operator, entered into a Production Sharing Contract together with Nippon Oil Exploration Limited and Teikoku Oil (Con Son) Co., Ltd. with Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (Petrovietnam) for the Blocks 05-1b and 05-1c offshore Vietnam at Nam Con Son Basin. The PC signed on Nov. 18, 2004. The stakeholders Idemitsu of including:
- IDEMITSU OIL & GAS CO. 35%
- NIPPON OIL EXPLORATION LTD.  35%
- TEIKOKU OIL (CON SON) CO. 30%

After the official approval from the Vietnamese government as of November 18, Idemitsu established an operation office in Ho Chi Minh City in January 2005 and commenced the exploration activities.

In addition, Idemitsu signed on Feb. 08, 2002 a Production Sharing Contract (PSC) with VRJ Operator for the Block 09-3 with a 15% stake, Offshore Vietnam at Cuu Long Basin.

JVPC

JVPC is an Operator of Block 15-2 at Cuu Long Basin offshore Vietnam. The PSC was signed on Oct. 07, 1992. The stakeholders of JVPC including JVPC 46.5%, CONOCCPHLLIPS 36% and PVEP 17.5%. Since August 1998, JVPC have been producing crude oil from Rang Dong Field in the Block.

KNOC

Korea National Oil Corporation (KNOC) is an Operator of Block 11-2 at Nam Con Son Basin offshore Vietnam with a 75% stake and PVEP 25%. PSC signed on May 19, 1992.

On Sep. 16, 1998, KNOC signed a PSC with Cuu Long JOC Operator for the Block 15-1 with a 14.25% stake at Cuu Long Basin offshore Vietnam.

At present, KNOC is actively involved in numerous projects in upstream oil and gas industry in Vietnam. KNOC Vietnam is now in stage of development of discovered gas field Rong Doi and Rong Doi Tay. Commencing end of 2006, gas from this field is transporting onshore through subsea Nam Con Son pipeline and supplying Vietnamese gas consumers for over 23 years.

LAM SON JOC

Lam Son JOC - a joint venture between Petrovietnam Exploration Production Corporation (Vietnam) and Petronas Carigali Overseas Sdn Company (Malaysia) - has successfully drilled the second wells, discovered the commercial oil and gas at Thang Long structure, Block 02/97, Cuu Long Basin, 27km of the Ruby oil field away from Southeast, 80km of the Bach Ho oil field away from the Northeast and 160 km Vung Tau away from the East.

Lam Son JOC is the Operator of two Block 01/97 & 02/97 at Cuu Long Basin offshore Vietnam. PSC signed on Jan. 06, 2003. The stakeholders of Lam Son including PVEP 50% and PCOSB 50%.

ONGC VIDESH LIMITED

ONGC Videsh Limited (OVL)  took a step in Vietnam with the signing of a Petroleum Production Sharing Contract (PSC) with BP for the Block 06-1 at Nam Con Son Basin offshore Vietnam with a 45% stake on May 18, 1988.

OVL was rechristened on 15th June 1989 from the earstwhile Hydrocarbons India Private Limited, which was incorporated on 5th March, 1965. Over a period of time, OVL has grown to become the second-largest E&P company in India both in terms of oil production and oil and gas reserve holdings. In 1992, in Vietnam with the discovery of two major free gas fields, namely LanTay and LanDo, in partnership with British Petroleum and Petro-Vietnam.

On June 16, 2006, OVL is an Operator of Block 127 & 128 at Phu Khanh Basin offshore Vietnam with a 100% stake.

+— Block 102 & 106 - Song Hong Basin (PCOSB 50%, PVEP 20%, SPC 20%, АTIР 10%). The PSC was signed on Jan. 28, 2000. Phase 1 expired Feb. 24, 2003.

In addition, PCVL also signed PSC with:

Salamander Energy is an Asia-focused independent exploration and production company with 21 licences across Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and Lao PDR.

Salamander Energy is the Operator of three Block:

An Australian energy pioneer since 1954, Santos is one of the country’s leading gas producers, supplying Australian and Asian customers.

2006: Bayu-Undan LNG and Casino and Maleo gas projects start production. Record financial results with profit doubling previous year. First entry into Vietnam with offshore farm-in to Nam Con Son and Hong Song Basins followed by discoveries at Dua and Blackbird fields. Gas contract signed to supply gas to Wesfarmers’ Kwinana LNG plant. Sale of US business announced.

Santos is an Operator of Block 123 at Phu Khanh Basin. The Stakeholders of Santos including Santos 50%, PVEP 30%, SK Energy 20%). The PSC was signed on May 28, 2008.

Santos has signed PSC with:
- Premier Oil for the Block 12W at Nam Con Son Basin with a 31.875% stake.
- Salamander Energy for the Bock 100-101/04 at Song Hong Basin with a 27.50% stake on Oct. 27, 2006.

VIETGAZPROM

Vietgazprom, a Joint Operating Company of Gazprom and Petrovietnam, is engaged in geological exploration activities on the continental shelf of the Socialist republic of Vietnam.

On September 11, 2000 Gazprom and Petrovietnam signed a contract that contemplated searching for, exploring, producing and marketing hydrocarbons in Block 112 offshore Vietnam. As a result of the geological exploration work performed in 2007, the Bao Wang gas and condensate field was discovered in the Block. Current operations in Block 112 center on proceeding with geological exploration in Bao Wang and prospecting work in the Coastal, Bao Den and Bao Trang structures.

Vietgazprom is the Operator of Blocks:
Block 111/04, 112 &113 - Song Hong Basin (Gazprom 50%, PVEP 50%). The PSC signed on Sep. 11, 2000. Phase 1 extension May 20, 2004.
Block 129,130,131,132 - VungMay - Tu Chinh Basin, Vietgazprom 100%.

VRJ PETROLEUM Co.

VRJ Petroleum Company has been conducting the Petroleum activities in Block 09-3 - Cuu Long Basin operating area of 5,500 km2) of the continental shelf in Vietnam since 2002. The Company was founded by Vietnamese and Foreign Constructors, consisting of Petrovietnam Exploration and Production (PVEP) (35 % of participating interest), Joint Stock Company Zarubezhneft (50 % participating interest) and Idemitsu Cuu Long Petroleum Co., Ltd – The Idemitsu Kosan Co., Ltd subsidiary (15 % participating interest). The PSC was signed on Sep. 16, 1998.

 

In 2006: VRJ Petroleum Company has encountered an oil flow with rate of 600 cubic meters per day ( approximately 3,800 BOPD) as the result of testing in Basement of Well 09-3-DM-2X in Structure Doi Moi in distance of 150 km from Vung Tau City, Vietnam.
